Seymour John is proud to be exclusively partnering with Monmouthshire Building Society for the recruitment of a new Chief Finance Officer.

Following an unprecedented year resulting in high growth, a move towards an agile working approach, and a drive towards online and digital services, Monmouthshire Building Society are recruiting for a CFO who can continue to build on last years achievements. This is an extremely exciting time to join the Society and will require a CFO who aligns with the Society's values and vision and ambitious growth strategy.

Established in Newport, South Wales in 1869, Monmouthshire Building Society is a purpose-led, strong, regional building Society which is primarily focused on providing residential mortgages and savings products. It is funded substantially by members' savings accounts, and has a proud mutual heritage, playing an important part in its local communities.

As the CFO you will report to the Board through the Chief Executive, sharing responsibility for managing the Society's affairs and ensuring its success. The primary role is to accept responsibility for all routine Financial, Treasury and Accounting matters relating to the Society.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create a culture of transparency, honesty and clear communication throughout the organisation and where the best interest of the members is at the heart of strategic and business decisions across the Society.
  • Contribute to Board, Board Sub-Committees and Management Committees, deputising if required for the CEO in their absence.
  • To foster a culture of robust policy delivery and risk management, consistent with the requirements of the business model, and is compliant with the legal and regulatory requirements of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
  • Work with HR to develop and implement staffing programs to attract the best applicants, retain colleagues and produce appropriate succession plans for the future success of the Society.
  • Responsibility for budgets and forecasts for the Society and driving a culture of cost management that delivers considered ROI in support of overall business objectives.
  • Responsibility for the production and management of key financial models.
  • Responsibility for Financial Reporting of the Society, including Year-end financial statements and other external and regulatory reports as required.
  • Responsibility for preparation and submission of regulatory terms.
  • Responsibility for Group Taxation.
  • Management of Relationships with key stakeholders including but not limited to Internal Audit, External Audit and the Regulator.
  • Support in the Development of the Society's Strategic Plan and monitoring performance against the plan.
  • Responsibility for the production and development of Management Information to support the implementation of the strategy.
  • Responsibility for oversight of the Society's investment and deposit portfolios in accordance with agreed Board Policy.
  • Responsibility for the Society's ALM Management in accordance with agreed Board Policy.
  • Responsibility for Capital Management, ensuring sufficient capital resources are available to ensure long term sustainability, supporting the Society's approved strategy.
  • Responsibility for the preparation of key Prudential Documents, including ICAAP, ILAAP, Recovery Plan, Resolution Pack. This includes responsibility for managing the firm's internal stress-tests and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of information provided to the PRA and other regulatory bodies for the purposes of stress-testing.
  • Monitoring for new emerging risks which could impact upon their Departments and reporting them to the appropriate Management Risk Committee.
  • Support in the safe delivery of strategic change initiatives.

Person Specification
  • A relevant degree and evidence of recognised experience
  • A recognised accounting qualification
  • Proven business leader with a progressive track record in the strategic leadership of Finance & Treasury within a banking or regulated financial services organisation and preferably a specialist lender.
  • Financial management experience, including proven ability to implement and monitor highly effective and efficient financial controls
  • Wide knowledge of treasury and financial management
  • Ability to interpret complex issues and think at strategic level
  • Precise and strives for excellence
  • Experience of Board reporting, regulatory reporting and risk identification
  • Knowledge and understanding of Retail Financial Services FCA/PRA handbooks
  • Experience of building strong relationships both internally and externally
    • Proven experience of external audit management.
  • Effective Leadership - to act as role model across the business, proven ability to lead and be part of a team, develop, manage and motivate teams and individual direct reports
  • Initiator & conceptual thinking
