Our client, a UK based university, is currently looking to identify an experienced interim health & safety lead to transform the health & safety function across the university.

Reporting to the executive sponsor, the successful candidate will have ultimate responsibility for delivering a change in operating model for health & safety.

You will lead on the engagement strategy as well as manage all key stakeholder relationships. Previous experience of working with academics is essential and being able to demonstrate a previous track record in academic change is important.

We are looking for an inspirational leader who fosters a change culture where all employees can visualise a better future. You will have a hands-on approach and an 'open door' policy to all staff. You will have previously worked in a university leading the health & safety function.

As the successful candidate your key areas of focus will be:


  • Transform the universities health & safety approach, university wide
  • Design and deliver strategic, structured and sustainable health, safety and wellbeing compliance and control across the university
  • Review, update & implement systems and processes
  • Ensure appropriate risk management is in place
  • Deliver practical health and safety training programmes to senior managers, line managers - Increasing management/staff culture, accountability and awareness.
  • Professionalise the services and install confidence into decision making across the university
  • Nurture an accountable Health & Safety culture across the university
  • Demonstrate successful stakeholder management with academics
  • Reposition Health & Safety as an important role in the eyes of the leadership team - Deans, Heads of facility etc.
