Payments are indispensable to our lives as consumers and to the smooth functioning and stability of the economy. As designated operator for the UK’s retail payments, Pay.UK enables £19.2 billion in safe and secure payments every day. 

Pay.UK is transforming the way that payments are delivered in the UK now and in the future and has an important role in catalysing and facilitating innovation. It commissions the technology and infrastructure that underpins its schemes - BACS and FPS - from an outsource partner, Vocalink. It needs to ensure that the technology underpinning that scheme infrastructure meets the needs of end-users and participants including banks, fintechs and other intermediaries.

The role 

Pay.UK seeks an Independent NED at an important time of change. They will join a collaborative board comprised of Independent and Participant NEDs who together provide oversight of this critical national infrastructure. 

They will provide constructive challenge, strategic guidance and offer specialist advice to the executive team and colleagues, and support the Chair in instilling the appropriate values, behaviours and culture in the boardroom and beyond.

The individual 

• Ability to contribute to and influence a broad and varied board agenda
• Significant experience of organisational transformation in multi-stakeholder environments 
• Deep experience of overseeing material outsourcing contracts, particularly around technology with a strong commercial focus
