Based in the East of England, our client is a privately owned, long-established and market leading business with an enviable track record of success.

They are now seeking a full-remit commercially orientated Finance Director to play a pivotal role working closely with the CEO and other Directors in the continued pursuit of excellence.

This role requires taking full ownership of the day-to-day finance function and playing a lead management role across other functions, whilst helping to guide both the growth strategy and reporting of the business as a whole. The Finance Director will be extremely visible across the organisation and will be required to have a strong blend of finance, commercial and operational experience, gained within either a blue-chip environment, a substantial entrepreneurial fast-paced business, or a mixture of both.

Main duties will include:

  • Supporting and partnering the CEO to deliver the Company strategy and day to day management of the business. This will include a significant leadership role across all areas of business operations.
  • Playing a significant role at Board level, giving valuable input and advice as a trusted voice in commercial, strategic and financial matters.
  • Leading a small but technically strong finance team.
  • Leading the Finance and management reporting function, supporting the CEO through the preparation of budgets and financial reports and providing advice and guidance on financial strategy and expansion.
  • Working to ensure the efficient and effective management of the company’s finances, including evolving a financial control framework to support entrepreneurial decision making.
  • Ensuring robust cash management, including cash forecasting with a particular focus on credit control.
  • Working with various stakeholders across the business to develop / enhance systems and processes and to build the infrastructure required to help the business scale.
  • Working closely with the CEO on Capital Investment.
  • Leading the management of external audit, complex cross border tax affairs, insurance and banking relationships.
  • Leading and delivering the operations strategy, including assessment of KPIs and reporting for the Board.
  • Ensuring that accounting policies comply with relevant accounting standards and that company policies are followed and that the group is compliant with tax law in the various jurisdictions it operates in.
  • Taking responsibility for Corporate Governance, Company Secretariat, pensions & benefits.

Experience:

  • A qualified accountant with significant post-qualified experience, and prior experience in an FD or other senior Finance role.
  • Significant previous exposure to General Management, and evidence of commercial focus would be highly beneficial.
  • An understanding of privately owned entrepreneurial businesses and working within an analytical commercial and financial environment.
  • Experience managing finance within an international company with complex and difficult to forecast revenue streams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to work closely and communicate with both financial and non-financial people.
  • A strong academic track record.
