The BFI is a registered charity, established by Royal Charter. We are a cultural charity, a National Lottery distributor, and the UK’s lead organisation for film and the moving image.

We believe society needs stories. Film, television, and the moving image bring them to life, helping us to connect and understand each other better. We share the stories of yesterday, search for the stories of today, and shape the stories of tomorrow. We exist to bring people closer together, to offer them choice and difference, and to help them get more out of the creative and cultural part of their life. To do that, we must support creativity and actively seek out the next generation of UK storytellers so we can continue to offer the widest and most representative range of UK and international moving image culture through festivals, programmes, in venue and online. We are in the process of transforming the organisation so we can transform access to our programmes, screen culture, and jobs across the whole of the UK. We are now looking for a new Executive Director of Public Programme and Audiences to join the leadership team that will lead the BFI into the future.

This role will lead on defining how the public interact with the BFI through our digital channels, venues and festivals, including our education work, our Lottery-funded UK-wide audience development and our marketing and customer development teams. 

It is one of the BFI’s key cultural leaders and spokespeople. A compelling advocate for the power of the moving image, and leads the editorial voice of the BFI, with a goal to broaden audiences and community engagement across our programmes of work. With audience choice and diversity at the centre, and a focus on ‘digital-first’ and the growth of BFI Player, to help us reach the widest public audience across the UK and internationally, with an overall focus on growing our income and unlocking value in all that we do.  An enthusiastic and effective communicator as a recognised expert and leader in the world of the moving image, you will be a strong advocate for British film and moving image.
