Our client is a global player in the food manufacturing services sector with a reputation for innovation and environmental protection. They are currently evaluating a new market sector, capitalising on the opportunity to sell a modification of their existing products into that sector.

As part of the market assessment team, they need to appoint a Sales Director to join a newly established team, initially for 18 months, to lead the B2B business development through a consultative approach with a network stemming from existing clients. The role will ultimately be global but the initial focus is pan-European and the remit will involve interfacing with existing sales teams to leverage the client relationships already in place. The role could be based anywhere within the main European markets but with extensive travel.

The knowledge and learning will form the basis of R&D work to modify one or more current core products to fill the new market need. It is envisaged that full market evaluation will take up to 18 months but once proven, this role will become a permanent position and the incumbent interim should be well-positioned to move into that role if that is what both parties wish.

To be considered for this role, you should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Proven experience in B2B sales on a direct and distributor base covering strategic/consultative and functional selling with new business development across all levels
  • Evidence of identifying new routes to market
  • Operation at a senior sales leadership position across multiple countries with large account management and distributors
  • Food manufacturing, or services within that, is a distinct advantage or a very closely aligned sector that has similar challenges
  • Proven leadership and decision-making experience with the ability to operate from executive to first line levels
  • The ability to influence and educate internal and external stakeholders across multiple functions and geographies
  • Commercially astute, good strategic vision, able to devise long term sales plans and with strong execution capabilities
  • Management (and remote management) of large, diverse teams & multi-cultural business environments
  • Available to start work within 3 to 4 weeks of offer
