Deputy Chief Information Officer (Grade 10)

University of Birmingham (GBP80 - 95k + University benefits)

Harvey Nash are delighted to be partnering with the University of Birmingham (UoB) in hiring their new Deputy CIO. University of Birmingham (UoB) is the original Red Brick University and part of the prestigious Russell Group, with 8,000 staff and 38,000 students in the UK alone. With their iconic, Edgbaston campus they have been at the forefront of teaching and research for over 120 years. Investment overseas has seen the opening of a state of the art campus in Dubai and new partnerships in Singapore, China and India.

As part of the 2026 strategy, Investment in Cloud and Digital services will facilitate new ways of teaching, collaborating and supporting global research, whilst unifying central operations and enhancing the world class student journey.

The new Deputy CIO (DCIO) will be key to these ambitions, working with the CIO on strategy and planning and directly managing service delivery, application delivery and infrastructure elements of the IT service. As a senior line manager (third parties and inhouse), the DCIO is pivotal in ensuring effective delivery and evolution of IT services, driving the culture of high-quality service to ensure technology facilitates the changing University needs and supports evolving technological capabilities.

You will need to demonstrate knowledge and experience of infrastructure, applications and service management across a large ITIL, technology function. The role will support policy, strategy and best-practice service management within a blended service delivery model, including the transition to Cloud services. It is essential that you are able to provide clarity and direction to a team as well as being able to understand and respond to customer demands.

Along with the proven capability in managing internal teams, budgets (OPEX & CAPEX) and suppliers in a blended delivery environment, you will also be a Trusted Partner across the University, evangelising the Cloud and Digital innovation.

UoB has a great environment, strong benefits (pension, holiday etc.) and a fantastic team. Whilst flexible working is being introduced across the team, it is envisaged the role will require being on campus 3 days per week.
