Our client is independent creative agency specialising in strategic brand communications and other related services.

The FC has responsibility for the finance department across the various agency offices (UK and overseas), including reporting, budgeting, forecasting and other ad hoc projects and tasks.


Management Accounting
  • Preparation of Management Accounts including transactions, journals, analysis, interpretation and reporting
  • Review all transactions to make sure posted accurately
  • Ensure prepayments and accruals are accurately maintained
  • Financial management of WIP including WIP reviews with each team and maintenance of WIP schedule and training of account management
  • Manage billing process
  • Ensure intercompany transactions and balances are fully reconciled monthly
  • Analysis of freelancer spend v budget
  • Liaise with Commercial Manager regarding payroll journal
  • Prepare reporting pack for Senior Management and Board
  • The above tasks are also required for several small subsidiary businesses

  • Lead audit preparation and response to auditors
  • Upload onto audit portal all requests and answer all audit questions
  • Verify and review audited financial accounts
  • Ensure fully reconciled with management accounts
  • Payroll and pensions

  • Prepare detailed overhead budget (non-staff, freelancers)
  • Set up schedules for easy monitoring throughout the year
  • Deal with budget holders so that they know where they are

  • VAT – prepare and submit accurately quarterly VAT return
  • Overseas VAT – prepare quarterly overseas office VAT return
  • Prepare and submit monthly/quarterly/annual Government Statistics
  • Manage International bank account
Reporting lines and working pattern
  • Reporting to Group CFO
  • Direct oversight of Management Accountant to be followed by direct management of AP and AR staff within a few months (3 further team members)
  • Other key stakeholders – auditors, Chairman, bank

Skills & knowledge
  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA Qualification
  • Media / communications agency background and knowledge of Paprika accounting software preferred but not essential
  • Strong interpersonal skills to bring together operational requirements and financial rigour
  • Excellent business process skills
  • First class communication and business partnering skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt the style and approach for a wide audience
  • Advanced IT literacy including spreadsheet skills
  • Ability to handle high levels of pressure, multiple concurrent tasks and critical decision making
  • Leads by example and work collaboratively to grow and nurture direct reports
  • Manage deadlines, ability to re-prioritise depending on unplanned situation, dealing with interruptions and other demands
  • Willingness to get involved no matter what the job
  • Clear accountability
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times
