The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission was established in 2014. Its mission is to make markets work better for consumers and businesses. It is an independent statutory body with responsibility for the enforcement of competition and consumer protection law. As well as enforcement responsibilities, it has a mandate to promote competition and consumer welfare across the whole of the economy. The Commission also has specific responsibilities concerning product safety, consumer information and education in relation to financial services, and Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Legislation currently being developed will lead to an enhanced role for the CCPC in the sphere of competition enforcement and consumer protection functions.   This is likely to bring significant additional responsibilities and structural changes to the organisation.

The Chairperson and Members of the Commission lead the organisation as a collective decision making body, providing leadership, strategic direction, governance and oversight at organisational level.  Applications are sought from suitably qualified persons for appointment as a Member of the Commission.

The successful candidate will have significant relevant expertise in or experience of one or more of the following areas – law, economics, public administration, competition, consumer affairs or business generally.  They will have a strong background of strategic leadership and the ability to work collectively as part of a high performing senior management team, with experience of guiding organisations through development and transformational change.  They will have the ability to  analyse complex economic and legal issues, in the context of an ambitious and progressive public service reform programme, as well as managing stakeholder relationships both domestically and internationally.

This appointment is on a fixed term contract for a period of 5 years duration which is renewable for one term at the discretion of the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.  It is envisaged that while one appointment may be made initially, a panel may be established from which further vacancies which arise may be filled.
