The National Archives is an essential resource for our democracy, a public good and an asset for future generations. Our historic mission endures: to collect and preserve the record, to use our expertise and knowledge to connect people with their history through our unrivalled collections, and to lead, partner and support archives at home and worldwide.
We are now seeking a Director of People, Inclusion and Change to join our dynamic and ambitious team. With over 11 million items under our care, we have one of the largest collections in the world, from Shakespeare’s will through to Tweets from Downing Street. Even with such rich histories, we are not stuck in the past. Our aim is to connect with the widest and most diverse audience possible in new and innovative ways.
The new Director will play a key leadership role in our organisation, central to our Executive Team and Board, guiding our drive to attract, recruit, retain and develop a rich and diverse team, all committed to improving the inclusive, entrepreneurial, and disruptive reach of the archives. This is a critical role in our ongoing development, and you will be responsible for leading the strategic people and engagement agenda as well as our strong commitment to being a diverse and inclusive organisation.
We need an individual who is passionate about our mission and takes a values-led approach, ensuring we have a collaborative and inclusive culture. Balancing strategic and operational needs, you will be adaptable and able to work with a wide range of diverse stakeholders; internally and externally. We are keen to find someone with proven experience at a senior level of leading and inspiring a successful HR team. The Director of People, Inclusion and Change will have strong strategic understanding, and operational delivery experience, of people agendas and best in class practices together with an impressive track record of driving culture change.
