Morgan Advanced Materials was founded 165 years ago in a small factory in London. Its focus today remains the same, namely engineering high performance materials and products that offer reliable solutions to technical challenges. Morgan Advanced Materials is a global FTSE 250 with a clear purpose: to use advanced materials to make the world more sustainable and to improve the quality of life. To this end, the business is targeting net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. The business has 7,500 employees in 30 countries and in 2020 had a turnover approaching £1bn performing well, in spite of conditions.

Morgan Advanced Material's Electrical Carbon division is a global business that develops and manufactures a wide range of electrical carbon brushes and collectors, brush holders and related products which are engineered for specific customer applications. Electrical Carbon's main markets are rail, industrial drives, power generation, iron and steel, mining and wind. In 2020 Electrical Carbon generated £151m. revenue and £23.6m. operating profit from 17 sites across the globe.

The Electrical Carbon business is in the process of changing from a regional to functional structure. The reason for the change in structure is to better focus on markets and customers, thereby driving growth. As a result of these changes there is a vacancy for an Operations Finance Director.

Job Description

The Operations Finance Director will support the Global Operations Director to define and deliver the future manufacturing strategy for the business. The role has overall accountability for Global operational costs, the financial elements of all key global operational decisions and management of finance teams at the nine key operational sites within Electrical Carbon. The Operations Finance Director is responsible for providing overall leadership to the finance function of the nine key Morgan operational sites. The post-holder will foster an effective enterprise-wide internal control environment to ensure the financial integrity of reported results. The ideal candidate will combine hands on operational tenacity with a strategic outlook. They will also have specific responsibility to co-ordinate any activities across the EMEAI region for the Electrical Carbon GBU where necessary.

Candidates must have a well-developed operational finance skill set allied to energy, strong influencing skills and the desire to drive positive change. In addition to having the ability to think strategically, candidates must also be willing to roll their sleeves up and get into the detail when needed. The ideal candidate will have experience of leading change and a track record of developing motivated high quality finance teams that add real value to a business. To be successful, candidates will need to be capable of supporting operational improvement with a view to driving margin growth. The role requires a strong relationship builder with personal credibility, capable of communicating effectively from the boardroom to the shop-floor. The position will be home based with a maximum of 25% travel.
