NHS Property Services – Non-Executive Director
Location – Flexible

This is an exciting opportunity to join a Board delivering real value to frontline NHS Services. We are purpose led and our Board really makes a difference.
Established in 2013, NHS Property Services is a property owner and manager, advisor and service provider. We were created to help shape the NHS estate, ensuring that our portfolio supports NHS needs both now and in the future. As a government-owned company our primary purpose is to enable our customers to deliver excellent patient care.
We have one of the biggest portfolios in the UK, comprising of more than 3,000 properties with 7,000 tenants. At a total value of more than £3bn, this represents about 10% of the total NHS estate. We work in partnership with NHS organisations to deliver outstanding quality, generating best value and cost efficiencies that will benefit our colleagues, patients, and the wider health economy.
As the NHS strives to transform and reshape models of care delivery in the wake of Covid-19, our role has never been more important. NHS Property Services will play a central part in influencing and supporting the future public healthcare estate and we seek to appoint two Non-Executive Directors to support us through the next phase of our journey.
The Board currently comprises our Chair, Shareholder Representative Director and five Non-Executive Directors. We believe the role of a NED is to contribute independent perspectives, working with our strong and talented Board to provide strategic direction on organisation wide issues, overseeing our future direction and delivery of wider strategies.
We seek to appoint individuals of exceptional calibre, with track records of leadership demonstrated in a comparably complex, multi-stakeholder environment. They must also demonstrate the capability to bring vision and ambition, inspiring a culture of exceptional service quality and performance, at all times living and promoting the values and purpose of NHS Property Services.
At this time, the Board wishes to complement its existing capabilities by bringing in skills in two key areas:
People Culture, Diversity and Inclusion - with significant experience and a track record of success in a relevant senior role, you will bring experience of people change and transformation within largescale complex environments. You will also demonstrate some exposure to digital transformation, most likely enabling smarter working within legacy systems and organisations.
Audit and Governance – with significant experience and a track record of success in a relevant senior role, you will be a qualified accountant most likely with a background in complex, multi-stakeholder environments you will lead our Audit and Governance Committee. We require you to demonstrate recent and relevant financial management experience.
It is important that all candidates have empathy with and some understanding of the public sector or health ecosystem. Suitable candidates will hold strong experience of working effectively at Board level or will have previous experience as a Non-Executive Director, Trustee, or similar. Strong consideration will be given to Executive level candidates looking for their first NED position from relevant sector backgrounds.
