Marks Sattin is currently working with a multi-disciplinary Practice based in Guildford, who are recruiting for a Qualified Accounts Manager to join their growing team.

When the offices are re-opened, there is an opportunity for flexible part-office, part-home working. Candidates do not need to live in the Guildford area, however, will need to be within a reasonable commuting distance.

The duties include:

  • Manage a portfolio of UK and cross border businesses, timetabling and reviewing the preparation of accounts for corporate clients, partnerships and sole traders.

  • Monitoring work done by members of staff, preparing monthly and quarterly management accounts, filleted Company Accounts and Full Company Accounts, including discussing the figures with clients and reporting any findings/variances. Group Accounts may be required from time to time.

  • Prepare and check VAT returns in all HMRC calculation formats.

  • Act as a liaison point between the tax department and client, ensuring relevant information is obtained and returns are filed on time.

  • Responsible for the training and supervision of new and junior members of staff in all aspects of accountancy in the Guildford office and overseas team members, and the use of MS Office, cloud accounting software (e.g. Xero and QuickBooks) and Accounts Production accounting software.

  • Review work prepared by junior members of staff.

  • Assist in the marketing of the firm, new business tenders and presentations.

  • Respond to and deal with general client queries, passing on to appropriate person for resolution where necessary.

  • Promote new methods of working in the team and adopting new software as relevant, keep up to date with developments in the accounting industry and assisting the partners in driving the practice forward as technology changes.

  • Maintain a keen interest in business development by promoting the Practice as a firm and seeking new clients, as appropriate, including identifying opportunities for cross-selling other services to clients and attendance at seminars and networking events.

  • Deal with the 'on-boarding' of new clients including following the new client set up procedures in line with Money Laundering regulations and the Firm's policies.

  • Arranging preparation of engagement letters and other documents from time to time.

  • Work with Partners and staff to provide a personal, professional service for the benefit of both clients and the firm.

  • Commitment to work flexibly with willingness to travel to client sites and the Firm's other office.

  • Such other duties as may be reasonably expected of the post holder.

  • The Accounts Manager will have day-to-day responsibility for the portfolio of clients dealt with by the department as well as the team members within it, reporting directly to the partners.

  • They will be empowered to act with autonomy subject to prior partner review and approval of work assignments and will be responsible for forming and maintaining strong client relationships.

  • The Accounts Manager will be responsible for seniors and juniors, both in the Guildford office and overseas and the number will depend on the size of the assignment.

  • In the office, the Accounts Manager will be expected to assist colleagues and juniors with technical queries.

  • The Post holder is responsible for selecting work for the junior staff and briefing them on how to perform that work.

  • The Accounts Manager will be expected to delegate routine work to the juniors and to review that work when it is completed.

Skills & Qualifications required to be considered:

  • Qualified ACA or ACCA.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in practice.
  • Experience of managing team members and working effectively within a team.
  • Strong IT skills including advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Experience of accounting software e.g. Xero, QuickBooks and CCH accounts production.
  • Wide range of sector experience.
