Based in central Cambridge, the Finance Manager plays an integral part in determining the School's approach to resource allocation and appropriate use of funding sources as well as being responsible for the smooth running of all finance related functions within CJBS, both in terms of operational delivery and strategic management accounting and reporting through their leadership of the CJBS Finance Office. The role holder is responsible for a team of eight, including a qualified solicitor, and ensuring the smooth running of the financial affairs of the School. Responsibilities will include financial management, business and financial budgeting and planning, procurement, change management, providing strategic financial advice and being the first point of contact for colleagues within the School and central University finance for financial-related queries and advice.
You will be a qualified accountant, educated to degree level and with commercial experience. Significant financial experience in a medium/large sized company or in the Higher Education/public/charity sectors is essential. Experience of working in a Higher Education environment, public or charity sector is not essential but would be desirable. The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in managing a medium sized finance office (from apprentice level to qualified professionals) and the ability to manage the financial accounting and management aspects of the job at the same time as financial planning and reporting for management purposes.
We are looking for a self-motivated individual who is results-driven, have advanced critical thinking and analytical skills with a high degree of initiative and ability to plan. The successful candidate must be highly organised and has proven experience on being able to work and deliver on multiple issues at the same time.
The ideal candidate will have a proactive approach to continuous improvement and have the experience and ability to evaluate the effectiveness of the school's current financial processes and procedures, ensuring compliance with the University's Financial Regulations and Procedures. The role holder is responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance within internal processes and procedures and dealing with day-to-day issues and queries arising from these matters.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a prerequisite for this role along with the ability to communicate effectively with tact and diplomacy and ability to build strong relationships at all levels (with both academic and non-academic colleagues as well as colleagues across the University and external stakeholders).
