Job Details
Our client is a high growth, niche designer and manufacturer for the retail, hospitality, leisure and travel industries. The business has recently received private equity funding which will enable significant investment in the business to help support its already impressive growth as it expands globally.
Based from the Dorset HQ, they now require a FD/CFO who will build and manage a best in class finance function to support the expansion and drive productivity. The role will suit a bright, hands-on FD/CFO who is both tactical and strategic and enjoys getting into the financial detail. The role will suit proven CFOs but we are also interested to hear from high calibre candidates who are looking to step into their first FD/CFO role.
A hands-on approach in an entrepreneurial environment is a pre-requisite, as is an understanding of analysing project based work in a manufacturing, supply chain, product or retail/consumer setting. We are also happy to consider candidates who are willing to relocate to the warmer climes of the south coast.
Key Responsibilities:
The CFO will be responsible for the following:
- Develop and maintain effective financial processes, people and systems to deliver a fit for purpose finance and operational function with timely, accurate, insightful and compliant financial reporting;
- Support the COO in developing and maintaining effective operational processes, people and systems to support the business delivering quality products to its customers worldwide;
- Coordinate annual budgeting and reforecasting;
- Accurate cashflow forecasting and management;
- Proactively analyse and improve key business areas including product margins and stock management;
- Work closely and collaboratively with the senior management and owners of the business, establishing a high level of credibility and ensuring strong working relationships;
- Contribute fully to the development of company strategy across all areas of the business, challenging assumptions and decision making as appropriate, and providing financial analysis and guidance on all activities, targets and business drivers;
- Develop and optimise the company’s financial systems, ensuring they are robust, compliant and will support current activities and future growth;
- Develop and maintain timely, comprehensive and accurate KPIs and business reporting processes;
- Ensure full compliance in all areas of finance and taxation including EMI/ERS reporting
- Develop a strong working relationship with the bankers, negotiating appropriate finance facilities as the business grows;
- Establish and manage company policies regarding risk management and working capital management as appropriate;
- Oversee the legal/contracting process, engaging external assistance as required. This will involve significant input into pricing and contract negotiations with customers and suppliers;
- In due course, support the financial aspects of a sale process, including involvement in the preparation of sale materials and presentations to potential buyers;
- Take responsibility for in house and outsourced legal/compliance, HR and support functions within the business;
- Take overall responsibility for ISO9001 and similar certification processes within the business.
The Candidate:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the majority of the following experience points:
- A recognised finance and accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with up-to-date technical skills/CPD;
- Prior experience as a senior finance leader with a demonstrable track record of creating value for shareholders in a business of similar scale or complexity;
- Experience driving financial process improvements in a complex, international, cost-conscious business environment;
- Strong financial modelling and data analysis capability, with experience of data analysis tools such as VBA;
- Significant experience of driving management information systems implementation, improvement and optimization to enable better decision making at the board level. Experience of creating tools that make a complex business simple to analyze and of creating a culture of transparency and accountability;
- Successful track record in delivering ambitious growth plans;
- Track record of driving cost reduction and efficiency gains;
- Background in organisations with world-class finance functions, and experience of professionalising finance processes and teams, driving reporting and data management upgrades;
- Prior experience of working in a Private Equity-backed or highly leveraged business would be advantageous;
- Experience in a business with a capex intensive model and international supply chains is highly desirable;
- Scion and Sage 200/MRP experience would be advantageous.

- Strong strategic mind-set; highly intelligent with an ability to assess, prioritise and interpret business performance and determine clear-sighted business plans relevant to each area of the business;
- A proactive self-starter with an entrepreneurial mind-set. The candidate will be capable of working independently and pro-actively, anticipating challenges and exploiting opportunities.
