What will you do?

This is a unique, exciting opportunity to lead the delivery of large-scale change at a pivotal time for the UK and the future of the border.

You'll lead the new GB Delivery Directorate with responsibility for the delivery of GB to EU border requirements as set out in the withdrawal agreement and the UK's border operating model.

You'll work closely with policy, portfolio and digital colleagues as well as stakeholders as varied as Ministers, ports, software providers and other government departments to effectively deliver their portfolio of projects in a cost-effective, timely and customer focused manner.

How will you add value to the role?
  • Experience of leading and directing major digital or technology-based transformation programmes
  • A proven track record of delivering complex changes to large organisations and large customer bases
  • Excellent communication skills to translate and deliver complicated messages to a wide audience
  • A demonstrable ability to manage media and public scrutiny
  • Ability to understand and influence internal and external stakeholders in a political environment
  • A proven track record of leading teams both directly and through influence and standard setting
  • Evidence of building strong teams with a focus on talent acquisition and building capability
  • A recognised Professional PPM or Change Management qualification is essential e.g. MSP, Prince 2

What will you be part of?

In 2019, HMRC established the Borders and Trade group. The group has departmental responsibility for policy, design and delivery of customs and tax revenue at the border.

We work closely with Border Force, and with partners across Government and externally, to deliver this, and to drive forward with the aspiration to be the best border in the world by 2025.

The role of GB Delivery Project Director is at the heart of the Borders & Trade group within one of government's leading project delivery departments. It is pivotal to the success of EU Transition and the UK's future border.
