Job Details

Solicitors Regulation Authority is the largest regulator of legal services in England and Wales, we regulate more than 200,000 solicitors and 10,000 law firms.  We work to protect the public and support the rule of law and administration of justice. We do this by making sure practising solicitors, as well as those entering the profession, meet the high standards the public expects.  We oversee all education and training requirements, license individuals and firms to practise and enforce compliance against the standards we set. We also want to make sure people have real choice in a fair legal market – making it easier for them to access expert legal help when they need it.

The Head of Individual Based Authorisation will lead the team of circa 50 staff who assess applicants’ suitability to offer legal services and licence them to practise.   Reporting to the Director of Authorisation, you will have a core role in managing an annual corporate exercise to renew solicitors' practising certificates, collecting circa £115 million and handling over 150,000 applications.

We are looking for individuals with a strong track record of leading and managing teams in high-volume case-work and operational processing environments.  As an empowering and collaborative leader, you will have proven experience in leading, motivating and developing teams, particularly during periods of change. Leading by example, you will play a key role in promoting a positive, customer focused and risk-based approach to taking decisions; and ensure all processes and systems support this culture.  With a strong track record of delivering through others and leading teams of comparable size, you will be a confident and consistent decision maker who is able to build trust and credibility quickly.

Equality, diversity and inclusion are important in everything we do. We are committed to treating everyone fairly and with respect. We aim to create an inclusive work environment, where staff can be themselves. As part of the SRA’s leadership team, you will have a strong understanding of and commitment to the principles of equality and diversity and their application in public policy.
