Job Details

The General Dental Council (GDC) is the UK-wide statutory regulator of over 110,000 members of the dental team. Our primary purpose is to protect patient safety and maintain public confidence in dental services. To achieve this, we register qualified dental professionals, set standards for the dental team, investigate complaints about dental professionals' fitness to practise, and work to ensure the quality of dental education.

The GDC’s use of information is central to the quality of service we give to people and the protection we provide to the public. It shapes and supports our ability to influence stakeholders and public policy.

As Information Governance Manager and Data Protection Officer, you will act as a ‘trusted advisor’ to our Chief Executive and to colleagues throughout the organisation. You will manage a small and expert team to deliver information services across the Council. Working closely with the Executive Director - Legal & Governance and with key staff across the organisation, you will support the delivery of information advice, responses to information requests, the completion of privacy impact assessments and organisation-wide projects to build and maintain compliance.

We are looking for individuals who possess expert knowledge and understanding of data protection legislation together with demonstrable, senior level experience, of its application in complex operational environments. You will bring relevant expertise in, and experience of, information risk management and the investigation and management of incidents and root cause analysis. A strong and collaborative leader, you will have a demonstrable ability to manage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
