The UK’s exit from the European Union has created the need for a brand-new organisation. The European Commission handled trade remedies on behalf of the UK, therefore for the first time in many decades, the UK needs to take on the task of investigating unfair international trade practices and import practices such as dumping (selling goods overseas at prices lower than in the domestic market), and industrial subsidies. These practices, along with unexpected surges in imports, can damage UK industries. The Trade Remedies Investigation Directorate (TRID), within the Department for International Trade (DIT), is currently undertaking this work until it is established as the Trade Remedies Authority (TRA), which will be a Non-Departmental Public Body outside of the wider civil service. It is within this forward-thinking organisation that you could find an exceptional challenge.

Our investigations are at the heart of our work and their success depends on knowing whether the business and financial information we are using is complete, accurate and relevant. Heading up a specialist team of Verification Advisors your leadership will be critical to building the capability of Investigators in this area. you will provide assurance of the work or your team and develop and oversee the quality assurance framework for investigation cases. You will be expected to drive consistency of procedures and advocate a culture of continuous improvement. You will be accountable for ensuring that we are complying with best practice in verification standards,

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team of the Investigations group, this is a high-profile opportunity to shape the success of the TRA. As such, we will look to you to occasionally travel both domestically and globally to represent the organisation and to attend conferences. You will need exceptional communication and networking skills, with the ability to effectively manage the expectations of internal and external stakeholders. As a CCAB-qualified Accountant, you will have experience of verifying and providing assurance of commercial financial data in an audit or investigatory environment, and your capacity to analyse complex information will be matched by the ability to quality assure the work of your team therefore you will have comprehensive people management, mentoring and coaching skills, and you will be able to come up with solutions to the challenges that inevitably arise when working with a new and untried legal framework.

This is an exciting moment for the UK. The establishment of the TRA will help ensure that UK industries are not harmed by unfair international trade practices. Join us in this vital work, and you will be exposed to career defining opportunities. With access to a total rewards package and the scope to network extensively across a truly progressive department, you are sure to excel in our team.
