Non-Executive Audit and Risk Committee Member

£8,640 per annum for 8-12 days contribution, including four meetings, preparation time and other strategic discussions

(3 year fixed term appointment, renewable once only)

As an independent body serving the public, the Information Commissioner’s Office’s (ICO) work is interesting and immensely rewarding.  We uphold information rights in the public interest, promoting openness by public bodies and data privacy for individuals. In the last year we have been involved with important issues ranging from intrusive technology to the privacy implications of the management of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our work has never been so important or high profile.

The ICO is now seeking to appoint a new Non-Executive member to our Audit and Risk Committee. This role will provide specialist and independent input into the ICO’s Audit and Risk Committee, which is part of our governance structure, helping to ensure that the ICO is managed in a manner that is risk aware, effective and is a model of good corporate governance.

You will be responsible for helping to ensure that the ICO has strong governance and financial management mechanisms in place, reviewing internal audit findings and making recommendations for improvement in practice. You will therefore play a key role in ensuring continuous service improvement, high performance management, scrutiny and accountability, and effective corporate governance.

For this critically important post we are looking for a qualified accountant with significant experience of public sector accounting (preferably including exposure to governmental arm's length bodies) and a good understanding of risk management. An interest in our work and a commitment to our goals is essential. Experience of working on a board level audit and risk committee would be helpful, but is not vital.

We welcome people from all backgrounds so that our governance reflects all the communities we serve. Consequently, for this role we are interested in hearing from potential applicants from under-represented groups who are interested in making a contribution to our organisation in this role.
