Job Details
Do you want to join a purpose led organisation and really make a difference?
Leeds Building Society has a clear purpose of helping people save and buy the home that they want. It’s a very strongly values-based member-focused business with mutuality at its core, but it’s also a progressive and inclusive organisation that wants to face to the future and has the business and financial strength to do that. Its culture is warm, open and engaging, which also translates into the board room. As a Non-Executive Director (NED), you will help guide the organisation through a period of significant strategic and economic change and have the opportunity to contribute to a progressive mutual that’s big enough to make a difference, but of a size where you can ‘put your arms around’ the whole organisation.
What are we looking for?
As part of its succession planning, the Board is seeking to appoint two additional NEDs who can bring their own perspective and diversity of thought to the overall running of the Society. Leeds firmly believes in the importance of a diverse Board membership bringing diversity of skills, experience, backgrounds, views that strengthens the capability of the Board and, therefore, the effectiveness of its collective judgements and decision-making abilities. As such, it wishes to broaden the talent pool for these roles as far as possible and invite candidates for their first NED role, as well as experienced NEDs and would particularly welcome applications from women and ethnically diverse candidates. In 2020, Leeds successfully achieved re-accreditation as Leaders in Diversity, awarded by the National Centre for Diversity.
At this time, the Board wishes to complement its existing capabilities by bringing in skills in two key areas:
Finance and Audit – a qualified accountant most likely with a background in financial services who will serve as a member of Audit Committee and in time may take over as Committee Chair, which will require you to demonstrate recent and relevant experience.
Digital transformation and customer – with significant experience and a track record of success in a relevant senior role, you will be able to bring experience of digital transformation and agile change management and will have contributed to how a business responds to digital developments, enabling you to help the Society develop proposals on strategy, with a focus on its digital roadmap. You will have a strong focus on customer experience and digital channels, bringing an informed customer lens to these strategic decisions. You will be able to contribute on all aspects of the technology agenda as the Society transforms from legacy systems to modern and open architecture. It is likely you will have experience of working in a regulated industry (but may be beyond financial services, for which additional onboarding support will be provided).
It’s important that candidates have empathy with and some understanding of the values of the mutual sector and its benefits to members.
As a NED, the time commitment will be 2-3 days a month and you will be required to attend up to 10 Board meetings per year and to serve on at least one of the Board Committees.
Interested? How to apply:
Please submit a short covering letter with your CV demonstrating how you meet the requirements of this role.
