Oriel is one of the oldest Oxford colleges. Though part of the University it is self-governing and financially independent, being a registered charity. Rich in history and traditions the College is also forward-looking and ambitious in its outlook. A focus on outstanding teaching and creating opportunity for young people is matched by an ambition to support Oriel’s academic members in their world-class research.

The current Treasurer is retiring after some 16 successful years and the College seeks to appoint a successor, as a Fellow of the College and Governing Body member, responsible for all non-academic functions (with the exception of fundraising).

This is a wide-ranging and senior management appointment. Leading an experienced team of direct reports and external advisers, the Treasurer will ensure efficient and cost-effective support to the College’s academic and charitable purposes.  This includes day-to-day operations, and financial and regulatory affairs, as well as overseeing capital building developments.

Applicants will need senior management experience as leader of multi-functional teams in organisations of relevant scale and complexity, whether in the commercial or non-profit sectors, or both.  Whatever their backgrounds, strong financial understanding and commercial skills will be essential.

Key to success in the role will be an empowering leadership style combined with very strong relationship-building skills; intellectually strong and able to command respect across the College.  The Treasurer will need to be highly diplomatic and collaborative, able to deploy business and management skills in a way that respects both the aspirations and traditions of this historic academic community.

This broad and influential role will appeal to senior individuals keen to play a vital role in the day-to-day life of the College, influencing and working with all areas of the community to deliver its academic mission, helping to drive forward progress and ensure that its operations run smoothly.

Oriel is actively committed to the principle of equality of opportunity for all suitably qualified candidates.

The closing date for applications is Monday 19th April 2021 (8.00 am UK time)
