Versus Arthritis
Finance Committee Member
Unremunerated

Arthritis is one of the UK’s biggest health problems. Right now, over 10 million children, young people and adults across the UK are living in pain.

Versus Arthritis refuse to accept this condition cruelly stealing life from people. They're 10 million people living with arthritis. They're healthcare professionals, researchers, carers and supporters. All united behind the vision of a world that no longer tolerates the impact of arthritis.

Versus Arthritis are at an exciting stage in their development. When created out of the merger of Arthritis Research UK and Arthritis Care three years ago, their driving ambition was to deliver more for people with arthritis. Their new Finance Committee member will share a passionate conviction that their beneficiaries must be at the heart of everything they do. The achievements of the last three years are clear, but there is still much to do.

Versus Arthritis' strategy is clear: to continue to develop breakthrough treatments, campaign relentlessly for arthritis to be seen as a priority, challenge how people see arthritis and ensure that everyone has access to the best information, advice and support they need, whenever and wherever they need it.

They are seeking a Finance Committee Member who can help them build on the huge opportunities that they have created to ensure that they are there for the long term to support the 10 million people living with arthritis in the UK, their families and friends.

As a member of the Finance Committee, you will be a crucial part of the organisation’s governance, providing valuable expertise and knowledge to help the Board oversee its financial policies and operations and to advise the Board on matters relating to financial viability and proper and effective stewardship of the charity’s assets.

To be successful in the role, candidates must be able to demonstrate experience, knowledge and understanding of finance, including most of the specific areas listed below, in an organisation of at least the size and complexity of Versus Arthritis:

  • Budgeting, forecasting and financial performance
  • Financial strategy, planning and policy
  • Investment management
  • Finance Risk and Control
  • Financial Reporting and External Audit

As an organisation that understands the increased impact that results from diverse perspectives they are committed to ensuring their committee member population reflects the lived experience of the people they support and represent. As such, they actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds.
