Job Details

Cancer Research UK (CRUK)
Trustees

London
20 days per year

Cancer Research UK (CRUK) is the world’s largest cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research. We have an annual income of about £650m although we have seen a dip in the last year as a result of the pandemic. We generally put back about £500m into research, influencing and provision of information, and fund about two-thirds of cancer research in the United Kingdom.

The scale of our mission for people affected by cancer is huge. We have a bold vision of bringing forward the day when all cancers are cured. Despite many external challenges, not least those exacerbated by the global pandemic, we have a clear vision of our role in a changing world, harnessing the expertise of people affected by cancer, our researchers, our supporters, our volunteers, health professionals and thought leaders. We are confident that together we will beat cancer.

We are now looking for two new trustees to join our Council. This is a perfect time and an ideal opportunity to play a crucial role in setting the future direction of the charity as a member of a committed and focussed team of trustees. You will understand the role of a charity trustee and demonstrate the ability to contribute constructively to a high-quality and collaborative board environment. You will have excellent inter-personal and communication skills, astute judgement, and integrity.

In order to ensure we remain able to harness the opportunities available to us, and to complement the strong commercial and clinical skills we already possess, we are specifically looking for individuals with knowledge and expertise in the following areas: technology, digital and data science, life sciences and pharmaceuticals, philanthropy, fundraising and income generation, or legal.

At CRUK we value and embrace Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). Creating a diverse workforce and inclusive culture which supports people to reach their full potential is an important priority for us. We believe our differences make us stronger and will enable us to accelerate progress in our aim to beat cancer. With cancer affecting people from every community and demographic, we believe CRUK needs to be as representative as possible of society and those with and for whom we work. This includes our Council. With that in mind, we actively encourage expressions of interest from those who will build on the diversity of our Council, especially with regard to ethnocultural diversity. We are also interested in hearing from individuals who have lived with cancer.
