Mind

Associate Director of External Relations

Location: London

Salary: £70,000 – £75,000

We’re Mind, the mental health charity. We won’t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect. We’ve been instrumental in pushing mental health up the agenda, and we’re unstoppable when it comes to speaking out powerfully and successfully alongside our campaigners. The changes we have made to the mental health system, to equality legislation, to the benefits system, the huge shifts in public attitudes and understanding alongside the tailored services and advice for individuals have made a difference to thousands upon thousands of lives.

We are seeking an Associate Director of External Relations at a pivotal time for the charity. We have refreshed our iconic brand, which will take us from strength to strength as, from April, we begin our new strategy, informed by people with lived experience. We will be fighting the biggest threats facing mental health today, particularly those relating to race, young people and poverty. Moreover, we have made a commitment to become an anti-racist organisation.

Reporting to the Executive Director of External Relations, you will be responsible for a large team across Communications, Marketing, Media and PR. This is an important senior leadership role within Mind with significant responsibility and autonomy. We are looking for an individual who will champion a range of transformational communications ambitions, and improve organisational understanding of brand, communications, media strategy and narrative. Working with the Associate Director of Fundraising you will help to instil a data and insight-driven approach to supporters, and champion the role of communications with senior stakeholders within Mind, including our network of shops and of independent local Minds. The new Associate Director of External Relations will also be responsible for a number of high level external strategic relationships and lead efforts to integrate the directorate’s activities to meet organisational strategy.

In this newly created role, you will have much to build on: an iconic charity brand, strong relationships at strategic and operational levels in the media, and a superb team of some of the best charity communications people in the country.

Mind is committed to ensuring diversity is at the heart of everything we do and putting our words into action. Representation matters. As such, we actively welcome applicants from a wide variety of backgrounds, particularly those who reflect the diversity of our audiences, supporters and service-users, including BAME communities, those with disabilities, those who are neurodiverse, the LGBTQI+ community and those with lived experience of mental health problems.

There’s a huge opportunity to a secure long-lasting change for people with mental health problems, and if you would like to find out more about this exciting opportunity please visit our microsite to find out more:
