JRSST – Charitable Trust
Trustee

York
4 days per year

The JRSST-Charitable Trust is a small grant making Trust with a big agenda.  At a time of deep concern about the state of democracy in the UK today our work has seldom been more pertinent or purposeful. The Trust exists to deepen understanding of how democracy can be reformed, and to ensure UK citizens – including the most marginalised – are informed and engaged.

Established by the Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust Ltd (JRRT) in 1955, we are a small funder and registered charity with ambition and broad charitable purposes. We are now looking to appoint a trustee to join us in our effort to define a distinctive and more focussed role for the charitable trust which operates independently from but is aligned to JRRT.

Operating in line with the values of our founder, Joseph Rowntree, the charitable trust strengthens the hand of organisations working to address political inequality, inform citizens, and ensure that power, exercised through representatives and institutions, is wielded in a responsible and accountable way to benefit wider society.

Our funding supports research which investigates the underlying causes of political inequality. Through this funding we seek to address problems of democratic reform, participation and citizenship, Supporting those who speak truth to power is at the heart of everything we do. Our responsibility is to focus our funding on initiatives, campaigns, and research that achieve change.

As a trustee of JRSST-CT, you will demonstrate your capacity to combine independent thinking with constructive challenge, and keen judgement. You will bring a passion for democratic reform, political equality and campaigning.

JRSST-CT values diversity and promotes inclusion. We are especially keen to hear from individuals who are under-represented at Board level and would encourage anyone who feels they can bring value to the Board to apply. If you would like to find out more about this opportunity, please visit our microsite: https://search.green-park.co.uk/jrsst-ct/

For an informal discussion about the role or selection process, please email Charities&SocialEnterprise@green-park.co.uk or call Harry Marven on (0)7584 076 890.

Closing date for applications: 11:59pm Wednesday 3 February 2021
