UCL is London’s leading multidisciplinary university, with more than 13,000 staff and 47,000 students from 150 different countries with an annual turnover of £1.5bn. As well as being a global leader in teaching, UCL is recognised as one of the most successful research institutions in the world. With world-class facilities both at their Bloomsbury Campus and a new campus in East London now under construction, this focus on innovation, research and entrepreneurialism generates a continuous stream of revenue generating opportunities that require strategic financial leadership.
We now seek to appoint the newly created position of Chief Financial Officer to help us achieve our ambitious Strategy 2034 at this time of great opportunity. As a key member of the University Leadership Team, the successful candidate will help shape UCL’s future through strategic leadership and the development and delivery of an innovative financial strategy, enabling UCL’s ambitions through creative and intelligent use of assets.
The post holder will provide strong, visible and dynamic leadership to the finance function, building and developing an exemplar enabling service, harnessing the talent of the highly capable team and developing processes and systems than incentivise the right behaviours, culture, and performance across the institution.
The successful candidate will be an enabling leader who has worked in large and complex organisations, ideally with a substantial capital expenditure experience. You will have experience as a key member of a senior leadership team, working closely with boards and a diverse range of stakeholders. You will be a strategic leader, but also unafraid to dive into the detail when required. UCL’s core mission is to make the world a better place, so the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a commercial mind with a social heart that aligns to the core values of UCL.
UCL was founded to open up higher education in England to those who had been excluded from it, and to change the way we create and share knowledge. That pioneering spirit is alive today, under the leadership of new President & Provost Dr Michael Spence and through the work of people across the University, who are taking on some of the biggest challenges of our time, and making vital contributions to the public good.
UCL was the first university in England to welcome students of any class or religion, and the first to welcome women on equal terms with men. Our strong commitment to equality is part of the fabric of UCL. We therefore welcome female applicants and those from an ethnic minority, as they are under-represented within UCL at this level.
