General Manager

  • (Printing Inks)
  • North Manchester
  • c. £60,000 plus benefits

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially aware, experienced operations leader to join a highly regarded, award winning, independent inks and coatings business which has enjoyed sustained and profitable growth.  From its North Manchester base and through a growing European network, the company has ambitious plans, which will be realised through increased turnover, innovation, improved productivity, and continuous professional development.  Our client manufactures and markets a range of technically advanced solvent and water based flexographic and gravure printing inks and coatings, which require detailed and efficient leadership to ensure that the company remains at the forefront of its chosen sectors, exceeds its customer’s expectations, and to enable the company’s business growth plans to be delivered.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the appointee will have overall responsibility for all Site Operations and Technical functions.  With full accountability, the appointee will be given substantial autonomy to develop, manage and deliver operational and technical strategies that meet the key growth goals of the overall business and focusses on modern manufacturing processes which are “lean, clean and green”.  Future sustainability is of key importance to the business, as is personnel development and the advancement of data driven KPIs to measure success, all of which will underpin company growth.  This new role will develop into a senior and influential voice within this private business and the right individual will enjoy the opportunity to contribute to the overall long-term development of the wider company.  As such, cultural fit will be of paramount importance, as will an entrepreneurial and collaborative approach to develop and support delivery of the company’s aspirations.

Candidates, ideally qualified to degree level or equivalent in Science, Engineering or a technical discipline, should demonstrate a track record of the operational leadership of technical products, commercial understanding, strategic thinking, strong teamwork, a high level of integrity and a desire to build strong relationships both internally and externally.  The successful candidate will be a skilled people person who can inspire others and allow them to thrive.  Experienced in leading and managing a variety of internal teams and individuals which have regular external focus, along with the personal development and successful delivery of ambitious manufacturing solutions, the appointee will demonstrate drive, tenacity, ‘presence’ and strong financial awareness coupled with exemplary communication & presentation skills.  Listening, influencing and negotiation will all be key competencies along with strong analysis and decision-making skills and a positive, enthusiastic outlook which will engage others to deliver exceptional results.

Interested applicants should send a detailed CV and covering letter quoting current salary and reference 2006/web

Company

TransitionPlus specialises in recruiting board level and first-line managers.

In addition to wide ranging industrial experience and a focus on supporting companies involved in manufacturing and technical products, TransitionPlus also provides both business development support and mentoring to SMEs and career management support to individuals.

We operate with the fundamental belief that the recruitment process is more than the simple "transition" of an individual from an existing position into a new role in a different company. For the process to be successful, the "plus" is to ensure that considerable attention and investment is given both before and after the actual recruitment, to ensure that the company culture and "fit" are clearly understood and to offer the successful applicant the greatest possible chance of growing and developing into the new role.

Similarly, business development support can only be truly effective once the "culture", desire and expectations of a business have been fully understood, which again requires significant investment and commitment from both sides.
