As the largest of the three academic units at the University, the faculty of Business and Law has more than 200 staff and 5600 students on undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes at Northampton, in the UK and overseas. The Dean is the leader of the Faculty and is responsible for its effective leadership, management and development. Reporting to the deputy vice-chancellor, the appointed candidate will be the Faculty’s leading representative both internally and externally.
Candidates will have a background of impactful leadership, whether in a relevant academic setting, or in business. They will exhibit a strong understanding of academic quality, learning and teaching and how they impact the student experience, in addition to experience of leadership in a large and complex organisation. They will bring an ability to think strategically and to communicate a vision to other members of staff, students and stakeholders in order to enthuse, inspire and drive change. Candidates will also evidence the ability to successfully lead and motivate a diverse group of colleagues, whilst building external partnerships and being an ambassador for the Faculty and University.
The appointed candidate will hold credibility with academics, as well as with industry and public sector stakeholders. Above all, they will bring a sense of vision and strategy, and an understanding of how to serve a diverse student population. Successful candidates will feel a connection with the University’s mission and wider social impact and be genuinely committed to building staff teams and supporting students.
