An exciting opportunity exists to join our Client as they seek to appoint a new European Financial Controller. The business is one of Europe’s largest business and financial information companies which has interests in financial publishing and events. The business has significant operations globally including US, Asia, USA and Canada, and are listed on the London Stock Exchange.

The role of European Financial Controller is broad, but will primarily focus on the accountability and responsibility for the performance and operational excellence of all services provided by the Finance Operations Team based in the UK.

Duties are not limited to, but include:

  • Leading, coaching and managing the finance operations team of 20 who supporting the Europe businesses in line with agreed SLAs, deliverables and deadlines
  • Deliver the strategy for the team in conjunction with the Global Finance Transformation Project’s roadmap
  • Ensure the Global Process Design Documents and Risk & Control Matrices are followed by the teams and appropriate reporting is in place to confirm this
  • Accountable for the control framework and risk management environment for the team
  • Drive required cultural attributes across the team including a customer-centric approach, focus on controls, service delivery and continuous improvement
  • Identify, plan for and develop interventions to support internal and external customer needs in an efficient, high quality and cost-effective manner
  • Broad knowledge of regulatory and fiscal requirements for geographies supported, in particular the UK, e.g. statutory accounts, Vat/sales tax, employee and corporation taxes.
  • Be the Finance Operations lead on the integration of acquired businesses or transfer of trading activities

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant and will  have knowledge of Finance/ERP systems preferably NetSuite, and have a demonstrable track record of leading and developing teams. Attention to detail aligned to strong leadership and commercial skills are essential criteria for the position.
