Finance Director

Totum are working with an ambitious, growing City law firm in its search for a new Finance Director, replacing the current incumbent who is retiring. Reporting into the Management Board and managing the finance function, this is one of the most senior non-lawyer roles in the business and requires someone with a senior level of experience and gravitas to fill it.

The Finance Director will act as the executive finance business partner to the Managing Partner, Heads of Department and Management team; providing best practice reporting and financial management and the data and functionality required by the business. The role works with the Management team to maintain firm-wide financial and budgeting control and with Heads of Departments and partners in managing their business finances, placing particular emphasis on KPIs such as cashflow management, in a strategic and timely way. The Finance Director will attend on request Partner and Management meetings, and be expected to make useful and constructive contributions based on solid experience. Alongside the commercial aspects of the position the Finance Director will also support to the Management team on financial matters relating to the business and Partnership, including statutory audit requirements and management of accountants dealing with individual Partner's tax returns. The role manages the accounting and finance team, ensuring a high-quality service throughout the practice. The key service qualities that should be measured to demonstrate the role's impact on continuous improvement are speed, accuracy, consistency, dependability and flexibility.

The Finance Director is one of the most senior business services positions in the firm and requires an experienced qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or international equivalent) accountant who has operated at a Director or C-Suite level in a law firm or in a similar professional services partnership environment (accountancy practice, management consultancy, etc.). Excellent communication skills, commercial acumen and leadership experience are required in equal measure, the role requires someone who can juggle being both hands on as well as give strategic input on a daily basis.
