Our client is a large, listed business with significant international operations, particularly in the US. They have grown very successfully both organically and through acquisition in recent years and are keen to support this continuing growth by further improving the Group’s financial control environment and non-financial framework. This is therefore a newly created position to help the business remain ahead of these developments and to further strengthen the Corporate Head Office team.

The aim of this role is to provide assurance over the Group’s key internal financial controls within the business, including offering oversight of the operating businesses’ responses to control observations as well as the identification of process and control improvement opportunities. You will ensure the Group remains abreast of evolving risk management and financial control best practice including pro-active review of regulatory developments.

A key responsibility for this position is to enhance the scope and quality of the Group’s non-financial reporting with a focus on the environmental, social and governance (‘ESG’) reporting framework, enabling the evolution of reporting in light of its increasing importance to stakeholders.

You would also take the lead on the management and co-ordination of accounting and risk management special projects, assisting with the response to Board and Audit Committee requests. The Group Internal Audit function is currently outsourced and while there will be interaction, this is not the focus of the job.

The successful candidate will be a high quality ACA qualified accountant coming from a top professional services firm with an excellent academic track record. You will currently be in an Audit, Assurance, Risk or equivalent team. The ideal candidate will work with integrity, enjoy being a team player and have a strong technical background. This role is standalone to begin with but will need someone who possesses the necessary skill set to develop junior staff. Experience of financial reporting under IFRS is needed, and Sarbanes Oxley would be helpful but is not essential. You must be prepared for some travel to the business operations in the US – circa one week a quarter and there will be some UK travel as well.

It would ideally suit a Senior Manager or Director, looking to make their first move into industry at a senior level.
