General Manager (Transportation)

Our client is a well established, multi-million turnover business specialising in the nationwide transportation of a wide range of products to a broad customer base. They provide clients with a range of services; from a single movement, to a total logistics solution, offering a seamless and professional service.

With a fleet of 80 articulated vehicles, a workforce of 160 employed, skilful drivers and the workshop and infrastructure to support the organisation, the company runs an operation where their customers are at the heart of what they do. The business has expanded to include depots with warehousing capability at a range of locations, plus they have a reach of transport depots, allowing the business to offer cost effective transport solutions over the length and breadth of the country.

Our client is looking to appoint a General Manager to assist the Directors in the running of their growing operation, day to day. This is an excellent opportunity to join their dynamic and successful company. The successfully appointed individual will be a high-energy, transport professional with a proven track record of operational management. They will thrive in a busy, people focused environment, where the customer’s requirements are at the heart of the operation and be committed to playing a pivotal, high-functioning role within the business.

The role encompasses a broad and exciting remit, with oversight across the business, to include; the transport operations (and associated Transport Managers), the workshop, their portfolio of clients, plus the supporting functions of the business (Accounts, HR etc.). Furthermore, the successful General Manager will maintain a harmonious working environment, ensuring all departments are high performing. They will maintain company service levels, safety and legal compliance at all times.

The appointed candidate must have a Certificate of Professional Competence.

Experience:

Extensive experience within a focused transport operation. The successfully appointed individual will have held responsibility for the day to day running of a seamless operation, providing leadership, motivation, training and development of the teams, executing against customer requirements, operational performance and embedding a safety and people focused culture.

A good working knowledge of the Transport Industry is essential.
