The first duty of Government is to defend our country and to keep our people safe, our national security and our economic security go hand-in-hand. Our strong economy provides the foundation to invest in our security and global influence, which provides more opportunities at home and overseas to increase our prosperity.

Acquisition is one of the key components of the Defence transformation portfolio. This post leads work on optimising MOD’s acquisition system to deliver capability with greater pace, agility and efficiently using all resources in doing so. The changing threat and pace of technology has changed the landscape and we need to react to this.

This requires whole system change and is about changing behaviours as much as changing process.

The role of the Acquisition and Approvals Transformation Director is to drive delivery of these key changes, through a coherent programme, working across the stakeholder community.

You will need a proven track record of change in a large complex environment and be able to set clear direction, motivating others to work towards a common goal.

The ability to create a sense of urgency, high performance and collaboration across an organisation to drive forward transformation. You will have sound judgment in providing strategic advice, constructive challenge and support to subject matter experts, and be able to build strong stakeholder relationships at all levels, navigating politically sensitive issues. You will enjoy developing diverse and inclusive high performing teams and providing visible and inspirational leadership to the wider organisation on change.

This is an exciting opportunity to drive forward acquisition transformation across Defence and play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of a key element of Defence’s transformation portfolio. With flexible working options and access to development opportunities to enable you to build a successful career with the Department and wider Civil Service.
