The British Pharmacological Society is a charity with a mission to promote and advance the whole spectrum of pharmacology. We lead the way in the research and application of pharmacology around the world.

The British Pharmacological Society is seeking a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to replace our current CEO, Jonathan Bruun. During Jonathan’s time as CEO over the last 7 years, the British Pharmacological Society has grown substantially in performance and impact. Membership has risen by over 20%, while diversification of the Society’s business portfolio has seen annual revenues also grow, providing stability to the organisation and supporting the delivery of a huge range of charitable activities. The Society is now in a strong position, having fostered a positive, ambitious and inclusive culture among its employees and members.

The Society is now seeking a new CEO to continue to lead the delivery of its vision, mission and strategy. The CEO will be responsible to the Society’s President and Council for strategic leadership and operational management of the organisation and its staff, to support the interests of its members, and to ensure its financial health. The CEO will be pivotal in representing BPS externally to a wide variety of stakeholders and customers in the UK and overseas, including key opinion-formers in Government, industry, funding agencies, academia and other organisations active in the Bioscience sector.

This post-holder will also act as Managing Director to the Society’s wholly owned trading subsidiary, BPS Assessment Ltd (BPSA) working proactively with the BPSA team, the Board and a range of international clients.

The CEO will be an experienced manager with a genuine interest in the role leadership plays in inspiring teams to achieve great things in a collaborative and fun working environment. An existing interest in the bioscience sector, technologies and content opportunities provided by e-learning, e-assessment and online publishing would be valuable. The successful candidate will also be cognisant and respectful of the Society’s strategic objective to focus on ethical sources of revenue, whilst working within the framework of a charity.

This is a permanent, full-time position. The British Pharmacological Society (BPS) is mindful of its responsibilities to promote equality of opportunity and to avoid discrimination at all times and will incorporate best practice into all the Society does.

Location: London

Salary: competitive with bonus package
