UK Government Investments (UKGI) is the government’s centre of excellence in corporate finance and corporate governance. Working on some of government’s most high profile, interesting and complex commercial tasks, the organisation works closely with both private and public sectors, advising and interacting with ministers, Parliament and Whitehall departments. UKGI executes all significant corporate asset sales by the UK government, for example, leading on the monetisation of HMG’s stake in RBS, and the sale of income contingent student loans. UKGI provides corporate finance advice across government, for example, supporting the government’s financial interventions, including into companies in distress. UKGI also acts as shareholder for UK government entities such as the British Business Bank, UK Export Finance, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, Post Office, Homes England, and Highways England.

The Chief Executive will focus on leading a team of 120 highly motivated and experienced professionals drawn from backgrounds in investment banking, private equity, the law, management consulting, and the Civil Service. Working with a complex range of stakeholders, the Chief Executive will position the UKGI team appropriately as expert advisors and collaborators. The Chief Executive will also be directly responsible for leading UKGI’s work at the highest levels of Whitehall and may personally supervise some projects or transactions.

Candidates are likely to be corporate financiers with proven leadership skills, who can demonstrate their effectiveness in working in a government and public sector context and a track record of operating at Board level. The proven ability to lead and motivate a small team of senior professionals will need to be combined with equally exemplary stakeholder management and relationship building skills. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate and espouse UKGI values. These values underpin UKGI’s unique place in the public service, allow it to attract and retain outstanding talent, and to be effective across Whitehall.

The Chief Executive is appointed by Treasury Ministers in consultation with the Chair.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 9 th October 2019, 23.00 UK time.

UK Government Investments has retained Russell Reynolds Associates to advise on this appointment. For further information about the position and additional details on qualifications, requirements, terms and conditions of service and how to apply, please visit: www.rraresponses.com.
