Deputy Chief Finance Officer – Commercial and Strategic

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust provides acute and specialist healthcare in north west London for around a million and a half people every year. Formed in 2007, we are one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, with nearly 11,000 staff.

Our five hospitals – Charing CrossHammersmithQueen Charlotte’s & ChelseaSt Mary’s and The Western Eye – have a long track record in research and education, influencing clinical practice nationally and worldwide. We also have a growing number of community services and provide private healthcare in dedicated facilities on all of our sites, including at the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s.  With our partners, Imperial College London, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and The Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust, we form Imperial College Academic Health Science Centre.

The Deputy CFO – Commercial and Strategy will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer, Commercial Director and other Executive and Trust Board members to provide strategic leadership and direction to improve and control the financial & operational performance of the Trust and will frequently be required to deputise for the CFO.  You will be the finance lead for all of the Trust’s existing and new commercial ventures including North West London Pathology, for the Trust’s negotiations with Commissioners and for many of the Trust’s major change projects. The post-holder will also provide commercial and contract management support and expertise across the Trust. The role will directly manage the strategic finance team, the procurement function, the contracting and service development team and be supported by the business partners supporting Private Patients and Intellectual Property.

The successful candidate must have an entrepreneurial approach, and be a professionally qualified accountant or lawyer with exemplary leadership and collaborative skills, high standards and the ability to influence the board and executive teams.  You must enjoy change and challenge and be comfortable in commercial negotiations and working on and delivering significant projects.  Having an understanding of NHS procurement is not essential, although experience of reviewing large complex contracts and business cases is.  You will have experience of working at a senior level in large and complex organisations such as the NHS, wider commercial sectors or from management consultancy.

This is a unique opportunity to join a reorganised leadership team where you will have the responsibility and autonomy to shape the future of the finance department and significant influence upon the future of the Trust.

Please contact Adrian Watts from Allen Lane to discuss this opportunity further. You can reach him on 0207 101 8807 and by sending your CV no later than Monday 30th September with interviews taking place week commencing Monday 28th October.
