Chief Executive

Six-figure salary and attractive package

The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) is the UK's only chartered professional body dedicated to educating, developing and regulating actuaries based both in the UK and internationally. Actuaries are real world problem solvers and strategic thinkers. They use their mathematical, data science and modelling skills to measure the probability and risk of future events. In a world where rapid change is transforming societies and industries like never before, actuaries are trusted by national governments and global organisations alike to act in the public interest. Whilst the IFoA is best known for its role in ensuring pension fund and insurance providers can operate safely, it is also at the heart of emerging technologies, application of data science techniques, insuretech and much more.

Operating under Royal Charter to put the public interest first, the IFoA represents and regulates nearly 32,000 members worldwide. As a professional body, the IFoA offers a range of products and services to equip people with the knowledge, training, and career-long practical skills needed to be valued and values-based professionals. The IFoA is a global organisation, but with a proud UK heritage. With a growing 60% of students based outside the UK, and an increasing number of non-UK qualified members, the IFoA has developed its strategy to serve members wherever they are based. The IFoA operates primarily from its London, Edinburgh and Oxford offices, with a number of overseas offices. In 2018/19 Group Revenues were c. £38m, with a strong balance sheet of total assets sitting at just over £30m.

The previous CEO, Derek Cribb has recently stepped down in early 2019 after almost a decade of excellent service. Already an authoritative and influential body, deeply set in certain key financial services industries, the IFoA is well positioned. However, a number of key themes are foremost in the minds of the Governing Body and are likely to form part of a future strategy; the future of the profession and the sectors within which actuaries operate, the IFoA’s own development as an efficient, modern, responsive and technologically-enabled organisation, and the further development of international activities whilst fostering a high-touch and member-centric culture.

There is a huge amount that a new Chief Executive can help shape, and from a stable base. Actuaries are applying their deep skills in maths and statistics to some of the most exciting and significant real-world challenges. This is an opportunity to ensure a modern and reflective professional body is there to support them.

The role can be based in London, Edinburgh or Oxford and offers a six-figure salary and attractive package.
