Organizational Overview

The Institute of International Finance (IIF) is the global association of the financial industry with close to 450 members from 70 countries. Its mission is to support the financial industry in the prudent management of risks; to develop sound industry practices; and to advocate for regulatory, financial and economic policies that are in the broad interests of its members and foster global financial stability and sustainable economic growth. IIF members include commercial and investment banks, asset managers, insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, hedge funds, central banks and development banks.

Over the past few years, sustainable finance has been one of the fastest-growing and most visible workstreams at the IIF—a top priority for our Board and senior management. Guided by our members and the growing focus within the policy and regulatory community, we are looking for individuals who are dedicated to making a difference: driving the agenda, finding consensus on climate finance solutions and developing a proactive communication strategy.

Position Summary

The Institute is seeking a Senior Policy Advisor to help advance IIF’s rapidly growing sustainable finance efforts. The position will report to and work closely with the Managing Director of Global Policy Initiatives to develop the agenda and manage projects for IIF’s Sustainable Finance Working Group (SFWG).  Among other things, s/he will review global policy and regulatory initiatives related to sustainable finance with a view to building out workstreams across the four SFWG subgroups: regulatory and policy engagement; disclosure and data (building on the work of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures, or TCFD); taxonomy/impact investment; and climate/ESG economics.

Responsibilities will include:

  • With guidance from the leadership of the SFWG, conceptualize, build and position the IIF as the primary global forum for public-private sector collaboration on sustainable finance
  • Conduct policy and market research on sustainable finance developments; contribute to the IIF’s new sustainable finance research and “All About the Green” podcasts
  • Draft agendas, background materials and presentations for conference calls, meetings and events of the IIF SFWG, as well as panel discussions and side events for broader IIF membership meetings
  • Building on member input and views, draft responses to relevant official sector consultations and undertake proactive advocacy
  • Develop a monthly newsletter to update IIF members on relevant policy, regulatory and market developments in sustainable finance
  • Build relationships and liaise with policymakers, regulators, NGOs, researchers and other industry bodies working on sustainable finance issues
  • Be able to represent the IIF on sustainable finance issues at relevant public fora and government agencies, as well as in front of members and senior management
  • Research, write, and edit articles and web content on a broad range of environmental, social and governance policy issues for posting to social media and IIF website

Requirements

The ideal candidate should be a team player with strong communication skills and comfortable working collaboratively across departments. S/he should have 10-15 years of relevant and progressively responsible policy experience in sustainable finance or a closely related field.  This position requires the ability to interface with senior- level individuals in both public and private sectors. Knowledge of and interest in a broad range of sustainable finance issues is essential.  Applicants must also have excellent writing and editing skills; preferably a master’s degree in a related field; the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment; exceptional computer and research skills; and strong organizational skills.  Good judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision are required.

To apply, please submit a cover letter (with salary requirements) and resume in Word format. For more information about the IIF, please refer to our website at https://www.iif.com.
