As the UK continues to thrive in the global digital economy, what role could you play in influencing the changing privacy and information rights landscape, whilst helping organisations to maintain public trust and confidence and people to exercise their rights?
About us
Our work as the UK’s privacy and information rights regulator has never been more important.
Data protection is the largest area of work for us, one of 11 pieces of legislation we oversee which includes the Freedom of Information Act and the Environmental Information Regulations, and as such we hold an important position as a regulator across the whole of the private, public and third sectors.
We are continuing to strengthen our Senior Leadership Team as part of our commitment to provide excellent public service.
About the role
This is an exciting time to join the ICO and take up this truly pivotal role. The Director of Corporate Communications is responsible for critically important activities such as:
- Providing direct strategic communications advice and support to the ICO’s Executive Team, including the Information Commissioner
- Representing ICO and its values effectively at senior level in engagements and presentations nationally and internationally for the Commissioner, including as a regular senior media spokesperson for the ICO when required
- Leading and inspiring teams across multiple disciplines as a visible and credible leader, taking responsibility across media relations and communications planning and engagement
- Supporting, and where necessary deputising for, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, maintaining a strong insight and understanding of the work of other directorates
- Managing strategic relationships, both within and external to the ICO. This may include 'on call' out of hours support as the point of senior level escalation for the ICO's Press Office
About you
You will have substantial experience relevant to the role, including experience of leading people managers and delivery of services in corporate communications disciplines.
You will be able to use initiative whilst being proactive and innovative in seeking opportunities for the ICO and are resilient and capable of working effectively and flexibly under pressure.
It is essential that you have experience of engaging and negotiating with senior external stakeholders and ideally, you will have some knowledge of the regulatory environment and the public sector generally, including the democratic, political and organisational framework.
You will be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and possess a strong track record in negotiation and delivery of presentations.
As a recognised inspirational leader, you will be able to provide effective strategic advice whilst initiating and influencing strategic change to deliver world-class services.
