Blackheath Preparatory School (Blackheath) is seeking an outstanding person with strong financial acumen and proven leadership ability to serve as its next Bursar. Blackheath is a remarkable school, with a strong track record of academic and co-curricular success underpinned by a commitment to pastoral care defined by the moral values of courtesy, consideration and care for all. Occupying a gorgeous five-acre site it offers just under 400 boys and girls aged 3 to 11 schooling which aims to be a beacon of excellence.

The Bursar will take responsibility for the leadership of all non-academic staff at Blackheath. Reporting to, and working closely with, the Head to develop the School’s long-term strategy while continuously delivering day-to-day services and improvements, the Bursar’s role is broad and deep: vital to the heart of Blackheath. Critical to the Bursar’s role will be financial oversight and they will be expected to provide robust controls strategic nous to the School. Overseeing estates, reviewing and renewing IT infrastructure, ensuring compliance with a range of regulations and regulators and acting as Clerk to the Governors, the School requires a Bursar with a sound financial grounding and a diversity of skills.

The successful candidate will be financially qualified, or possess compelling, related, career experience. They will have led teams in, but not limited to, finance and will likely have some experience engaging with academic staff. Blackheath is looking for an inspiring leader with an affinity for the School’s ethos and a confident, flexible approach. The next Bursar will be a critical part of the Leadership team and an engaged member of the wider Blackheath community, both formally and informally.
