GSK are currently seeking a Project Manager for Mergers, Acquisitions and Divestitures (MA&D) in the Global Procurement's Centre of Excellence (CoE) Project Management & Innovation team based at GSK House, London.

In this role the successful applicant will be accountable for delivery of the procurement workstream of deals globally in GSK. This will include deals spanning the whole of global procurement and partnering with category experts in all areas of the business. The successful candidate must be able to exhibit high levels of learning agility, as well as be able to deliver results in extremely challenging circumstances with very tight timelines all while operating under strict confidentiality.

Responsibilities:

  • Be accountable for all procurement activities from pre-deal to deal completion (inclusive of Integration/Separation activities) to ensure all deals are completed safely, on time and with minimal commercial impact to GSK.
  • Work closely with the Corporate Development team on multiple deals in parallel, ensuring that all procurement milestones are clearly identified and executed. The ability to work across boundaries is also necessary as a large part of the role is identifying and managing dependencies with other workstreams. The ability to influence without authority and work with very senior stakeholders at CET-1 level is required.
  • Budget planning is undertaken on a deal by deal basis, often working closely with the global CPO, office of the CFO and CFO - 1 to obtain necessary approvals. The candidate must be able to constructively challenge stakeholders at this level and defend the requested budget to be able to have sufficient funds for the appropriate level of resource to deliver the deal safely.
  • Risk assessment and a strategic mindset is needed to look across the deal (both pre-deal and post-signing) to identify and mitigate any risks to global procurement at GSK. Where appropriate, category managers must be involved, and existing supplier relationships leveraged, to address such risks.
  • Partnering with stakeholders often occurs to identify opportunities for value creation through identifying the right mix of external support eg Tier 1 vs Tier 2 consultancies, CW's vs external resource, etc.
  • Leading negotiations with consultancy partners (BCG, McKinsey, Big 4) is a large part of the role as most deals require external support. Working together with CET-1 to lead RFP's and ensure that the right suppliers are selected at the right price in extremely tight timelines is required.
  • The candidate must work extremely closely with the Procurement Strategic Consulting team to ensure that there is alignment regarding rate card and contract negotiations and leveraging GSK's global volume as opposed to operating in silos.
  • Supplier relationship management and being the middle-man between the deal team and suppliers is needed to ensure KPI's are delivered and that we are getting the best out of our suppliers.
  • Bringing in the external view to stakeholders through external benchmarks, best practice and industry standards is needed to constantly improve the ways of working. This includes challenging the existing supplier base, procurements role and scope as well as the RFP/CAF process.
  • Respect for different cultures and the ability to flex approach to different regions is required as a significant part of the role will be managing people in the markets to deliver regional procurement activities. There is often travel to local markets and sites required at very short notice, the candidate must be able to be flexible enough to be comfortable with this.
  • Recruitment and line management will also be a large part of the role as for almost every deal, external resources will be required to scale up the procurement workstream and deliver. Therefore, good line management is critical role as the candidate must be able to train, motivate, and monitor the external procurement team members working under them.
  • The applicant must have an analytical mind-set and be a confident team player who takes ownership and leads by example. There is also a requirement for a pragmatic results driven/execution focused skill set. Good communication skills, both verbal and written is also needed alongside strong influencing skills. The applicant must be able to take initiative, be tenacious and enthusiastic and have a strong gravitas within the MA&D team, the wider Global Corporate Development department and the global procurement organisation to be able to get things done in extremely short timelines. A strong strategic thinker who can take a bird's eye view of the global procurement organisation and views it as One Procurement is required.
