We are looking for an experienced and suitably qualified risk management professional who will work as an integral member of the CGIAR System Organization’s Board and Council Relations Unit. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team working to contribute to a world free of poverty, hunger, and environmental degradation.

Summary of the Position

Working within CGIAR’s extended enterprise model, where multiple entities come together in a common endeavor to achieve impact, the Senior Advisor, Risk Management has primary responsibility for stewarding and supporting ongoing development of an effective risk management and internal control framework, policy and practices within the System Organization and coordinated System-wide initiatives relating to an aligned approach to risk management.

The incumbent will enjoy being in a rapidly changing environment with the opportunity to develop the role in a way that strengthens alignment in governance practices, transparency in decision making, and overall trust within and beyond the CGIAR System. Broad areas of responsibility include design and/or further development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of component elements of an effective CGIAR Risk Management Framework in relation to the System Organization, as well as on a System-wide basis.

Requirements

Required:

  • Advanced university degree (masters or equivalent) in relevant field
  • Extensive post-qualification progressively responsible experience in the field of public administration, development and/or international relations
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of best practice risk management frameworks, methodologies, and emerging practice
  • Experience in dealing with a broad range of strategic and operational risks gained in a comparable environment
  • Leadership skills, and the ability to manage risk-focused activities in an international extended enterprise
  • Proven ability to operate credibly and effectively at Board/senior executive level, contributing across a wide range of business issues
  • Successful track record of working with sensitive issues in complex organizations and delivery in an environment of significant change

Preferred:

  • Formal accreditation in risk management
  • Experience in compliance and/or ethics functions
  • Project management qualification
