This is a unique position that offers a genuine opportunity to contribute to the transformation of a truly historic organisation whose expertise and information underpins national security, civil defence, safety of life at sea, protecting the marine environment and international trade.

The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) is a world-leading centre for hydrography, specialising in hydrographic and marine geospatial data that helps others to unlock a deeper understanding of the world’s oceans. Working with a wide range of partners, we source, process and provide access to this data, ranging from seabed to surface, to help others make the best use of our oceans in safer, more secure and more sustainable ways. We share this data with governments, defence users and academia, as well as make it available through our market-leading portfolio of ADMIRALTY Maritime Data Solutions, which is found on over 90% of the world's ships trading internationally.

We are in a period of delivering unprecedented change, as the shipping industry undergoes mandatory transition to digital navigation. So far, we have adapted successfully; we now deliver over 60% of our services digitally and continue to innovate to meet the evolving needs of our customers and reach wider markets. We are now embarking on a much more ambitious journey, to transform ourselves into a data centric marine geospatial information agency, while continuing to perform our core public tasks - to support the defence of the UK and the safe passage of ships around the world.

This is a newly created position that will play a vital role in securing the UKHO’s position on the global maritime stage, helping to redefine the organisation at a critical inflexion point. You will be a member of the Executive Committee, delivering inspirational leadership across UKHO, with a particular emphasis on bringing first-class strategic financial insight, expertise, and experience to an organisation that is dependent on revenue generation for its future success. You will oversee the development of Finance and Corporate Services into a true business enabler capable of fully supporting our growth. You will also set standards, drive consistency and build financial management capability to put finance at the heart of decision making within UKHO.

This is a high profile, challenging and rewarding leadership role with the potential to make a significant impact on UKHO’s future direction. We are therefore looking for an inspirational and enthusiastic motivator of people with a strong business acumen and successful track record of strategy and corporate development in a complex, commercially related environment. A qualified accountant, you will bring considerable experience of strategic financial management and a track record of implementing transformational change across multiple functional areas. You will have proven ability to inspire and empower large, multi-disciplinary teams, creating an inclusive culture of continuous improvement. You will also have exceptional engagement, interpersonal and relationship skills to motivate and influence staff and stakeholders at all levels.

We are determined to ensure that our organisation is representative of modern Britain and welcome and will support applications from the widest range of people of different backgrounds, cultures and experiences.
