SunLife is a marketing distribution business providing financial products to the over 50s. We operate in a regulated and complex environment and are looking for a proactive, technically strong and pragmatic Head of Assurance who will lead on all first line risk, compliance and governance activity across the business. As SunLife is part of Phoenix Group, you will also be responsible for ensuring that the business has the control framework in place to comply with group policies and reporting obligations.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced regulatory professional to take the next step in their career and have overall responsibility for regulatory and operational frameworks. What's more, SunLife is located in modern offices in the heart of Bristol that provide an excellent working environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You'll develop an effective oversight framework to identify, evaluate and provide assurance that all material risks impacting the business are being managed, overseeing the implementation of robust systems and controls to mitigate them
  • You'll build a strong incident management framework making sure that we comply with Group risk incident requirements
  • You'll ensure the provision of relevant and timely regulatory guidance that meets the needs of a dynamic distribution business and be the go-to person for related queries and escalations
  • You'll proactively lead business projects that arise from regulatory change impacting the business
  • You'll own and implement the firm's business continuity plans
  • You'll deliver effective risk and controls support with best practice, identify improvements required or ensure help needed is provided in a timely manner
  • You'll have line management responsibility for the Operational Risk Manager

Key Skills & Experience required:

  • Strong regulatory, risk management, data privacy and assurance experience in a regulated financial services environment
  • Experience within Life Insurance would be advantageous but other financial services would be considered
  • You can build strong and collaborative relationships across the business and demonstrate strong credibility by senior leaders
  • Proven ability to influence key internal and external stakeholders
  • A pragmatic approach to building action plans, processes and resolving issues
