Job Details

The Girls' Day School Trust (GDST) is the UK's leading network of independent girls’ schools, with over 3,500 staff, and nearly 19,000 students between the ages of three and 18.

As a charity that owns and runs a network of 23 schools and two academies in England and Wales, it reinvests all its income in its schools. Founded in 1872, the GDST has a long history of pioneering innovation in the education of girls and is the largest single educator of girls in the UK.

The GDST is seeking an outstanding Head of Finance to lead the Finance team and oversee the financial reporting and controls of the Trust and its related entities.

The role will be responsible for the leadership of financial accounting, cash flow management and the development of long-term financial plans. The successful candidate will lead the finance business partnering relationship with GDST schools & Trust Office, including monthly reporting, forecasts and budgets, as well as the financial planning processes.

We are looking for a qualified accountant who will have experience of preparing financial and management accounts / reporting, along with leading a year-end accounts / audit process to tight deadlines and will have worked with external auditors and other professional advisors.

The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to relate well to people on all levels and build good relationships. The Head of Finance will be expected to show initiative and be proactive in identifying and resolving issues, as well as leading and motivating a Finance team of 10 people.

Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to the GDST on this appointment. For further information about the role, including details about how to apply, please click the apply button.

Company

We now educate 19,000 students and employ 3,500 staff. All but two of our schools educate girls all the way through, from the age of three or four to 18.

Our schools include Putney High, Oxford High, Wimbledon High, South Hampstead High, Shrewsbury High and Newcastle High as well as many others.

We're always looking for new and innovative ways to enhance learning in our schools - our team of experts at the GDST are leaders in their fields and work closely with both outside specialists and schools to shape the future of girls' education.

As a charity, we are committed to our students, not to generating profits for any shareholders. We are determined to improve social mobility and help every girl, whatever her background, to fulfil her potential and to realise her dreams. We provide 1,100 bursaries and scholarships in our schools. We also work with 430 state schools and universities on projects which have helped to raise girls' aspirations. We sponsor two non-fee paying academies, Birkenhead High School Academy and The Belvedere Academy.

We have an active network of 70,000 alumnae including Cressida Dick, Helena Bonham Carter, Olivia Colman, Sophie Kinsella, Samira Ahmed, Esther McVey, Afua Hirsh, Miriam Margolyes and Sophie Raworth.

Collectively, we enable each girl, whatever her disposition and direction in life, to learn without limits.
