Job Details

Often voted among the best places to live in the UK, Bristol is recognised as an economic hub and a smart city that is transforming places for its fast-growing population (approaching 500,000).

Bristol City Council has ambitious plans for growth and regeneration, playing a leading role in driving a city of hope and aspiration.

In this pivotal role, you will help make this vision a reality, supporting the Mayor and Cabinet in delivering the One City Plan and its key commitments to meet the future needs of one of the UK’s most successful cites. You will work in collaboration with external agencies and partners to work towards an inclusive economy and a vibrant community in which opportunity and success are shared.

You will lead all aspects of our ambitious plans for growth and regeneration, including the redevelopment of Temple Meads Station and its hinterland, Western Harbour and growth along the A4 corridor supported by a £0.5bn Housing Infrastructure Funding proposition, as well as the revitalisation of the city centre and the bringing forward of a number of key housing sites in support of an aim to get to the delivery of 2,000 homes per annum in the city by 2020. You will also be responsible for operational services such as transport, housing and landlord services, parks and open spaces, libraries and flood risk management.

You will be an inspirational leader and have previously worked in a large and multifaceted organisation, preferably within a public sector setting, in related disciplines, however, technical skills in the fields of economic development, housing and property will also be considered.

Our transformation strategy will impact the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of Bristol, and provide the foundations for the One City Plan; a long-term programme setting out ambitious targets for the future of Bristol, decade by decade up to 2050.
