Strategic Management

  • To contribute to the strategic management of A&O by developing and maintaining and implementing strategies that encompass all Financial aspects of the company.
  • To participate within the Senior Leadership Team in forward planning and the effective daily organisation of A&O activities, including business planning, policy setting, financial forecasting and strategic decision making
  • Actively participate, present and contribute on the A & O Board
  • To proactively apply financial analysis to define business strategies for the company generally

Financial Management

  • Effective management and control of all capital and revenue budgets and effective oversight and control of the management and administration, finance and budgeting process
  • To lead on the financial aspects of any strategic projects aimed at achieving company growth, aligned with the business strategy
  • To have a detailed understanding of the activities and budgets of each department. Reviewing and monitoring MIS in line with the agreed financial plan and where possible further improve it
  • Have a good working knowledge of our International offices financial reporting, profitability, performance and statutory requirements
  • Monitor and control the quality and cost effectiveness of services provided by the department
  • Report financial performance weekly to the Senior Leadership Team
  • Manage and embed a culture of cost control and ROI
  • Seek methods and practices to minimise financial risk
  • Maintain up to date records of all financial information, including taxes
  • Active engagement with business on potential new contracts, business plans/cases
  • Participate in the six eyes sign-off for new bid submissions
  • To lead on new contract governance and compliance

Team Leadership

  • To lead and manage the Finance team by establishing excellent ongoing working relationships within the team (and other departments) via talent recruitment and retention, people development, communication and to represent the department at board level and to other departments generally
  • Lead an innovation programme to create a best in class finance team
  • To ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained
  • To effectively manage the performance of the team by carrying out regular 1-2-1's and appraisals, ensuring objectives and key outputs are cascaded through the team
  • Manage finance team in the facilitation of day to day operations, including tracking financial data, invoicing, payroll etc
  • To establish appropriate individual development plans and succession plans for the department
  • Communicate effectively with the team on a regular basis ensuring information is clear, accurate and timely; encouraging team participation in the way information is relayed between departments


  • To deliver an excellent service to customers (internal and external) through automation, MIS and the financial management of the organisation
  • To ensure the accurate and timely preparation of management accounts and the effective operation and development of management systems for all accounting functions
  • To be responsible for the preparation of, and commentary relating to, appropriate financial reports in line with the A&O reporting schedule
  • Ensure that all the company's financial practices are in line with statutory regulations and legislation
  • To be fully conversant with new initiatives and new legislation in all matters relating to financial management and to advise the board accordingly
  • To plan and prepare all financial management documents, including financial plans, budgets and monthly forecasts
  • Analyse the financial climate and market trends to assist senior executives in creating strategic plans for the future
  • Monitor overall group liquidity & cash flow, accounts and other financial transactions
  • To manage and oversee the preparation of all statutory returns (UK and other territories)
  • To plan, implement and develop the Finance Team operating procedures
  • To lead and initiate liaison with, and the management of, relationships with auditors, business advisers, funding partners and, where appropriate, suppliers
  • To develop the management information systems used with emphasis on effective financial control procedures
  • To manage all investments to help deliver vs. plan
  • To be responsible for financial aspects of contracts to include review and approval of all relevant contractual terms
  • Drive IT strategy, define key priorities and deliverables to meet internal and external business requirements
  • Manage continual improvement and successful accreditation in quality standards that are crucial for business operations
  • Drive strategic and operational development of in-house software to support operational efficiencies and business requirements

Relationships/Position in the organisation

  • Member of the Senior Leadership Team
  • Direct line responsibility for IT Manager, Quality Manager and Software Development Manager
