Since its inception in 2011, The Government Digital Service (GDS) has led the transformation of the digital agenda across Government, redefining how Government works, building and running platforms as well as developing standards and services that are changing the face of public services. By developing innovative technology and harnessing cross-government transformation and collaboration, GDS has transformed how people interact with Government through the creation of GOV.UK, a website that has attracted 3.4 billion hits since it launched in 2012. They continue to innovate and iterate with platforms such as Verify and Notify, transforming the relationship between citizen and state.

Reporting into Kevin Cunnington, GDS are seeking a Director for Service Design and Assurance to take responsibility for the setting of the technology roadmap for Government through to 2030. The Director will ensure a proactive approach in how Government effectively utilises technology and take the lead on the delivery of standards and assurance across Whitehall and beyond.  As both a deep technologist and inspirational leader, they will be responsible for managing a large overall indirect report of 100+ staff, including direct line accountability for the Heads of Security Standards; Service Design Standards; Technology Standards; and Standards Assurance.

The incoming Director will be visionary in their approach to technology, possessing the ability to engage at the very highest levels, rapidly gaining the confidence and respect across a broad church of senior stakeholders including Ministers, Director Generals and CDIOs. They will be adept at cultivating and building the ‘right’ relationships across government, setting and selling the vision in inspirational fashion as it relates to the current and future use of technology, through effective and innovative service design and delivering on standards and assurance across security and technology, exercising sound political judgement in a fast moving and complex environment.

Once again thank you for your interest and we look forward to meeting you at a later stage of the process.  If you have any other questions about this position, or for an informal, confidential discussion please contact Green Park and speak to Ben Bond or James Butler on 0207 399 140.
