FINANCE DIRECTOR

Mansfield Building Society is a vibrant, modern and thriving mutual organisation which has been helping members and customers to save for the future and buy their own homes since 1870. With assets in excess of £400m, the Society is proud of its heritage and mutual ethos, but also looks forward to its future with strength and confidence by continuing to invest and build on strong double digit growth of the last few years. The Society appeals to both existing and new customers through a commitment to provide a secure haven for savings and by offering a clear and transparent range of mortgage solutions to help people fulfil their individual housing needs. As a mutual building society, it puts itself at the heart of the local community supporting the region through sponsorship, charitable donations and direct community engagement.

The Board is seeking to appoint a new Finance Director (FD) with strong strategic and commercial acumen to replace the current FD who has been promoted to Chief Executive (CEO). The FD will be an Executive member of the Board and play a lead role in all aspects of the running of the Society, bringing fresh thinking and appropriate challenge to the Board, contributing to the strategy, growth and future success of the business. Reporting to the CEO, they will lead, motivate and develop a finance and treasury team of eight people. This is both an exciting and challenging opportunity for the incoming FD to join the business during an exciting period of change with the recent launch of a new brand, a fresh modern look in the branch network and development of an online proposition.

Forward-looking and an innovative thinker, the Board is seeking to appoint a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with proven leadership capability and breadth in finance knowledge gained within a regulated financial services business or (Big 4/Top Tier) accountancy firm. This is a high profile role and candidates must have strong emotional intelligence and a track record of building effective and influential relationships with internal and external stakeholders. An understanding of credit and treasury risk matters along with an appreciation of the issues facing building societies would be advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate an open mind, a pragmatic approach, a down to earth nature and a desire to embrace change.

The Society promotes an engaging culture of “Positivity, Integrity delivered in a Forward Thinking, People First environment”. Cultural fit and alignment with the Society’s values is a pre-requisite to ensure success in this key role together with a relentless focus on delivering exceptional customer experience.

The appointment will be subject to PRA/FCA approval and candidates should either already be approved or have the credibility, experience and understanding of the UK regulatory environment to be so.
